[Sneaking into cabins, peering into windows, leaping over the heads of passengers is Spring-Heeled Jack.

He visits naughty children, peeking in at night to watch them sleep, and then he's off again just as fast as he came.

Dressed in black with long claws and keen to play some wicked pranks goes Mason, more of a mischievous spirit than anyone willing to cause serious harm.

[ He shifted on his hunches. Sniffing at the hand. Nose wrinkling. But he didn't attack.

He was used to a world little girls who lost their way and woodsmen with hatchets. Tricky goats and elusive swine. Food and predators. But this...thing fit neither. He sniffed again. Could this thing be eaten, even with this claws? ]

[There's hardly a speck of meat on Mason's bones: he's a spectre, practically a shadow. It'd be like trying to chew a starved crow; all gristle and work and no taste.

He pulls his hand back, giving a high-pitched, nervous giggle. What was this thing?]

[ Jerry jerked back at the giggle. As if expecting an attack. His gaze darted around, one clawed hand poised to defend himself. But nothing game. He let out a growl, and a soft snort. Slowly, lowering his hand, venturing closer again. ]

You are neither child nor huntsman. Neither goat nor pig. What are you?

[Mason sits, quite nervously, his eyes darting around for the exit. He's not used to sitting still for so long, but he doubts his ability to escape the jaws of this creature again. Best to wait - catch him offguard - and then run.

He spreads a gleeful grin wide, eyes bright red and scheming. He'd answer if he could]

[ The lack of answer was infuriating. The wolf let out a might growl. Claws digging into the dirt at the edge of the light. ]

SPEAK! OR I WILL GOBBLE YOU UP! BONES AND ALL!

[He jumps at the growl, leading to a whole small avalanche of nervous tittering. The claws scrape the dirt he sits in.

He makes his move, leaping for the exit]

[ The wolf lunged. Trying to catch the elusive thing. But he wasn't fast enough. Teeth snapping shut right where a heel had been.

But he did not pursue through the door. Such things were not worth his time. Not for such a lean and meager meal. ]

[A quick twist around a corner, and the spring-heeled terror is gone, leaping away to safety and hopefully far easier prey]
